What is Althrocin Liquid?
An antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections (e.g., throat, lungs, skin, urinary tract) and specific infections like whooping cough (pertussis) and diphtheria. Also an alternative for penicillin-allergic children.
Key Instructions
-
Dosage: Usually 4 times daily (follow doctor’s prescription based on age/weight).
-
Timing: Give on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after food) for best absorption. If stomach upset occurs, give with a small amount of food.
-
Duration: Complete the full course (5–10 days) even if symptoms improve. Stopping early risks reinfection.
-
If vomited: If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking the dose, repeat the same dose once they’re calm.
Benefits
-
Treats pertussis (severe coughing with “whoop” sounds).
-
Fights diphtheria (throat infection causing breathing difficulty).
-
Kills bacteria causing ear, nose, throat, lung, and skin infections.
Common Side Effects
-
Mild: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain. These usually fade in a few days.
-
Consult a doctor if side effects persist or worsen.
Safety Advice
-
Kidney/Liver Issues: Inform the doctor if your child has kidney/liver disease (may need dose adjustment).
-
Allergies: Disclose any history of allergies or heart problems.
Missed Dose?
Give it as soon as you remember. If close to the next dose, skip the missed dose. Never double the dose.
Note: Always follow your pediatrician’s instructions. Keep this handy for quick reference during treatment!
