Class: Anti-epileptic (Anticonvulsant)
Generic Name: Brivaracetam

Uses

• Treats epileptic seizures (partial-onset, myoclonic, tonic-clonic).

• Prevents seizures with long-term use.

Dosage & Administration

• Dose: As prescribed (initially low, gradually increased).

• How to take: Swallow whole, with/without food, at a fixed time daily.

• Missed dose: Take ASAP; skip if close to next dose. Do not double dose.

How It Works

• Binds to SV2A protein on nerve cells, stabilizing electrical activity in the brain to prevent seizures.

Side Effects

• Common: Dizziness, drowsiness, headache, nausea, agitation, aggression.

• Serious (rare): Mood changes, suicidal thoughts, severe rash.
  → Report worsening mood/behavior to doctor immediately.

Safety Warnings

• Alcohol: Unsafe (increases drowsiness/seizure risk).

• Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: Consult doctor (potential fetal risk; breastfeeding safety unknown).

• Driving: Avoid (may impair alertness/vision).
