A nitrate-based medication used to treat and prevent angina (heart-related chest pain) by relaxing blood vessels, improving blood flow to the heart, and reducing workload.

Uses

• Angina (chest pain due to heart disease)

• Heart failure

• Coronary artery disease

• Hypertensive emergency

• Anal fissure (off-label use)

How It Works

• Relaxes and widens blood vessels → improves oxygen supply to the heart.

• Reduces the heart’s workload.

Dosage & Administration

• Take as prescribed, with or without food, at a fixed time.

• Swallow whole—do not chew, crush, or break.

• Avoid sudden discontinuation (may worsen angina).

• Tolerance risk: Follow dosing schedule strictly to maintain effectiveness.

Side Effects (Common)

• Headache (may be severe; hydrate well, avoid alcohol).

• Dizziness/lightheadedness (rise slowly to prevent falls).

• Blurred vision, fast heartbeat, low blood pressure.

• Avoid alcohol → Can worsen dizziness/low BP.
