Uses:

Treatment of schizophrenia (restores brain chemical balance, improves thinking/behavior).

Treatment of mania (stabilizes mood, prevents extreme excitement).
Dosage:

Take with or without food, preferably at night.

Swallow whole; do not crush/chew.

Missed dose: Take ASAP, but skip if close to next dose.
Key Side Effects:

Drowsiness, dizziness, weight gain, headache.

Parkinsonism (tremors, rigidity), increased saliva, urinary infection.

Rare but serious: Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS—fever, muscle rigidity, confusion).
Precautions:

Avoid alcohol (increases drowsiness).

Monitor blood sugar (risk of diabetes).

Rise slowly (may cause low blood pressure).

Do not drive if drowsy or dizzy.

Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: Consult doctor (potential risks).
