Description

Product Description

Dolonex DT 20mg Tablet is a dispersible oral formulation of Piroxicam, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Pfizer Ltd. markets Dolonex, and the DT formulation contains 20 mg of Piroxicam in each tablet. A 15-tablet pack is a commonly listed presentation in India.

Piroxicam is used to reduce inflammation and associated pain in conditions such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It works by reducing the production of prostaglandins, substances involved in pain, swelling and inflammation. Because Piroxicam has a relatively long duration of action and carries important gastrointestinal and cardiovascular risks, its use should follow the treatment plan prescribed by a doctor.

Uses

  • Relief of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis.
  • Relief of pain, swelling and stiffness associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Symptomatic management of inflammatory joint conditions when Piroxicam is prescribed.
  • May be used for other inflammatory musculoskeletal conditions when specifically recommended by a doctor.

Key Benefits

  • Contains Piroxicam 20 mg, an NSAID with analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity.
  • Helps reduce inflammatory pain and joint stiffness.
  • Can help improve comfort and mobility when inflammation contributes to symptoms.
  • Dispersible tablet formulation for oral administration.
  • Suitable for prescribed management of selected chronic inflammatory joint conditions.

How to Use

  • Take Dolonex DT 20mg exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
  • Take the tablet with food or immediately after food if advised, particularly if you are prone to stomach irritation.
  • Use the dispersible tablet according to the instructions on the pack or from your pharmacist.
  • Take it with sufficient water.
  • Do not take more than the prescribed amount.
  • Do not combine it with another NSAID or painkiller containing similar anti-inflammatory ingredients unless your doctor advises it.
  • Do not stop or extend long-term treatment without discussing it with your doctor.

How It Works

Piroxicam reduces the activity of cyclo-oxygenase enzymes involved in the production of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins contribute to pain, swelling and other features of inflammation. By lowering their production, Piroxicam can reduce inflammatory pain and stiffness in affected joints. Its action addresses the inflammatory process as well as the associated discomfort, but it does not remove the underlying cause of chronic arthritis.

Side Effects

  • Indigestion or stomach discomfort.
  • Nausea.
  • Vomiting.
  • Abdominal pain.
  • Diarrhoea or constipation.
  • Dizziness.
  • Headache.
  • Drowsiness may occur in some people.
  • Skin rash or itching.
  • Increased blood pressure or fluid retention may occur.

Seek prompt medical attention for severe stomach pain, vomiting blood, black stools, breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash or other serious symptoms.

Precautions & Warnings

  • Piroxicam can cause serious and potentially fatal gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration or perforation, which can occur without warning. NSAIDs also increase the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke. Use the lowest effective treatment exposure for the shortest period considered appropriate by your doctor. Seek immediate medical attention for black stools, vomiting blood, severe abdominal pain, chest pain, sudden weakness or difficulty breathing.
  • Do not use Dolonex DT if you have had an allergic reaction, asthma attack, urticaria or other significant reaction after taking aspirin or another NSAID.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of stomach ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding, inflammatory bowel disease or other digestive disorders.
  • Inform your doctor if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney disease or liver disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking anticoagulants, antiplatelet medicines, corticosteroids, SSRIs or other medicines that can increase bleeding risk.
  • Do not combine Dolonex with other NSAIDs unless specifically prescribed.
  • NSAIDs can reduce kidney function or cause fluid retention, particularly in people with existing kidney or heart problems or those taking certain blood-pressure medicines.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy. NSAIDs, including Piroxicam, are generally avoided later in pregnancy unless specifically directed by a healthcare professional.
  • Inform your doctor before surgery or dental procedures because Piroxicam may affect bleeding risk.
  • Stop the medicine and seek medical attention if you develop a severe skin reaction, blistering rash or swelling of the face or throat.
  • Older adults may have a higher risk of serious gastrointestinal, kidney and cardiovascular adverse effects and may require closer medical supervision.

Storage Instructions

  • Store below 30°C unless the pack specifies otherwise.
  • Keep the tablets in the original blister until use.
  • Protect the medicine from moisture, excessive heat and direct sunlight.
  • Keep out of reach and sight of children.
  • Do not use tablets after the expiry date printed on the package.
