What it treats:
Bacterial infections (eyes, ears, nose, throat, lungs, skin, urinary tract).
Part of MDR-TB (multidrug-resistant tuberculosis) treatment.
How to give:
Orally, at a fixed time (with/without food). If stomach upset occurs, give with meals.
Dose: Based on child’s age, weight, and infection severity. Never double dose.
If vomiting within 30 minutes, repeat the dose. If near next dose time, skip the missed dose.
Common side effects (usually temporary):
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, headache, dizziness, itching.
Rare: Vaginal inflammation (girls), sleep issues, injection site reactions (if applicable).
Safety tips:
Kidney/Liver issues: Use under doctor’s supervision; dose adjustments may be needed.
Stop immediately if signs of liver problems (vomiting, weakness, pale skin) occur.
Tell the doctor about any allergies, heart/kidney/liver history before starting.
If you miss a dose: Give ASAP unless close to next dose. Never double dose.
How it works: Stops bacterial growth by damaging their DNA, curing the infection without resistance.
When to call the doctor:
Side effects worsen or persist.
Signs of allergy (swelling, severe rash, breathing issues).
Unusual tiredness, jaundice, or prolonged diarrhea.
