Description

Product Description

R-Cinex 450 Capsule combines two established anti-tuberculosis medicines, Rifampicin 450 mg and Isoniazid 300 mg. Lupin Ltd. manufactures this formulation, which is commonly supplied as a strip of 10 capsules. It is prescribed as part of a structured tuberculosis treatment plan rather than as a general antibiotic.

The combination works against Mycobacterium tuberculosis through two different antibacterial mechanisms. Rifampicin interferes with bacterial RNA production, while Isoniazid disrupts the synthesis of important components of the bacterial cell envelope. Using them together helps target tuberculosis bacteria at different points in their growth and is intended to be used alongside any other medicines included in the patient’s prescribed TB regimen.

Uses

  • Treatment of tuberculosis (TB).
  • Used as part of combination therapy for tuberculosis according to the prescribed treatment plan.
  • May be included in regimens for pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis when appropriate.
  • Helps suppress and eliminate susceptible tuberculosis bacteria when taken consistently as prescribed.

Key Benefits

  • Combines two anti-tuberculosis medicines in one capsule.
  • Rifampicin and Isoniazid act through different mechanisms against TB bacteria.
  • Convenient fixed-dose formulation for patients who have been prescribed both medicines together.
  • Supports adherence to a structured anti-TB treatment regimen.
  • Available in a 450 mg/300 mg capsule formulation from Lupin Ltd.

How to Use

  • Take R-Cinex 450 Capsule exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
  • Swallow the capsule with water; do not open or crush it unless specifically instructed.
  • Take it on an empty stomach if that is how your doctor has directed your TB regimen.
  • Follow the complete treatment duration prescribed, even if symptoms improve earlier.
  • Do not skip doses or stop treatment on your own.
  • Do not take a replacement dose after a missed dose unless your doctor or TB-treatment provider advises you to do so.
  • Tell your doctor about every other medicine, supplement or contraceptive product you use before starting treatment.

How It Works

R-Cinex contains Rifampicin and Isoniazid, which attack tuberculosis bacteria in different ways. Rifampicin blocks bacterial DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, an enzyme required for the production of essential bacterial RNA and proteins. Isoniazid interferes with the formation of mycolic acids, which are important components of the protective cell wall of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Their combined activity helps reduce viable TB bacteria and is used within multi-drug treatment programmes designed to limit the development of resistance.

Side Effects

  • Nausea or vomiting.
  • Stomach discomfort.

  • Headache.
  • Weakness or tiredness.
  • Skin rash or itching.
  • Reddish-orange discoloration of urine, sweat, saliva or tears due to Rifampicin.
  • Increased liver enzymes.
  • Dizziness or visual disturbances in some patients.
  • Numbness, tingling or burning sensations in the hands or feet may occur with Isoniazid.

Precautions & Warnings

  • R-Cinex can cause serious liver injury. Stop taking the medicine and seek urgent medical advice if you develop yellowing of the eyes or skin, unusually dark urine, persistent nausea or vomiting, marked loss of appetite, severe abdominal pain or unusual tiredness. Liver-function monitoring may be required during treatment.
  • Rifampicin can turn urine, sweat, saliva and tears reddish-orange. This is generally an expected effect, but contact your doctor if the discoloration is accompanied by other concerning symptoms.
  • R-Cinex can interact with many medicines because Rifampicin strongly increases the metabolism of several drugs. Give your doctor a complete list of prescription medicines, over-the-counter products and supplements.
  • Rifampicin can reduce the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives. Discuss alternative or additional contraception with your healthcare professional.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, kidney disease, a history of hepatitis or previous reactions to anti-tuberculosis medicines.
  • Isoniazid may cause peripheral neuropathy, particularly in people with certain risk factors; tell your doctor about numbness, tingling or burning sensations.
  • Avoid alcohol during treatment unless your doctor specifically advises otherwise, as alcohol may increase liver-related risks.
  • Antacids can interfere with absorption of the medicine; follow the interval recommended by your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Tell your doctor if you develop visual changes, as Isoniazid-related optic problems can occur rarely.
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding before treatment.
  • Do not stop anti-tuberculosis treatment simply because you feel better. Incomplete or irregular treatment can contribute to treatment failure and drug resistance.
  • Seek urgent medical attention for severe rash, breathing difficulty, significant bleeding, seizures, confusion or sudden visual problems.
